Get Ready for Summer
I love smoothies, and this one is a favorite in our family. The fact that it’s dairy free is a big bonus in our home. Smoothies only take a few minutes to make so they’re perfect for busy households, and kids love them.
Smoothies make a perfect snack on a warm summer day.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does.
Ingredients: serves 1-2
1 4oz. package frozen pure mango puree
2 Slices canned peaches (reserve the juice)
1 Medium strawberry (fresh or frozen)
1 2″ x 2″ chunk pineapple (fresh or frozen)
Directions:
Put all ingredients in a tall mixing cup. Or, put into blender pitcher. Add 1-2 Tbs. of reserved peach juice. Use a stick blender or regular blender to mix. No need to add ice because the frozen mango takes care of that.
Pour the mixture into a pretty glass and sip your cool, delicious, nutritious drink.
Just in case you’ve never heard of a stick mixer I’ve included a picture of the one I use. This is not a promo or review, it’s just the one I have.

Fun to Make with the Kids
If you need a quick hostess gift or want to make some candy for your own Easter celebration this might be it. It’s also easy enough for the kids to help. It took me about 20 minutes from start to finish.
Only Takes A Few Ingredients
- Bag of Chocolate Eggs
- Bag of Hershey’s Kisses
- Bag of Square Butter Pretzels
5 Minutes in the Oven
Heat oven to 170° F.
Place the pretzels on a baking sheet and top with an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss. No need to use parchment paper on the baking sheet. I tried both ways and found that not using parchment paper was easier. Put into oven and bake for 5 minutes or until chocolate is soft, not melted.
Push Candy Egg into the Kiss
When you take them out of the oven gently push a candy egg into the kiss.
Chill for Ten Minutes
These are ready for the refrigerator. Chill for 10 minutes to set the chocolate.
Prepare a Plate
I used a pretty green dotted plate with a white paper doily to showcase my Easter treats.
When Chocolate is Hardened Arrange on Plate
When the chocolate is hardened add the nests to your pretty plate. I decided to added the leftover kisses to the plate to fill in the gaps.
Cover with Cling Wrap
Cover your candies with cling wrap until ready to serve.
I will be taking some of these to an Easter Celebration as a hostess gift.
The plate didn’t look quite festive enough for me so I went into my new kitchen towel stash. I found a cute green cotton towel with flowers, and ladybugs to wrap up the plate.
The towel was not big enough to cover the whole plate and tie with a ribbon, so I had to improvise. I ended up using office paper clamps to secure the kitchen towel (I think they look pretty cool, don’t you?)

I hope you enjoy making your own Candy Nests

Growing Crystal Rainbows
Fun • Easy Preparation • Few Ingredients • Not Messy
Materials:
- Pipe cleaners ( red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple/violet, & white) if you can find indigo add that
- Bowl
- Borax ( found in your grocery store laundry section)
- Stick long enough to sit across top of bowl
- Boiling Water
- Wire or string
- Adult Supervision
Instructions:
Gather all your supplies and boil water to fill the bowl.
Note: This science project needs adult supervision; you will be using HOT water and Borax. Read Borax box for safety precautions before starting this project.
Shape rainbow colored pipe cleaners aka Chenille Stems to form a Rainbow
Use white pipe cleaners to secure the ends.
I also used white pipe cleaners to make crystal clouds
(sorry I forgot to take a picture)
Pour boiling water into a bowl or large jar.
Take note of how many cups of water it takes to fill the bowl.
ADD 3 heaping tbsp Borax to each 1 cup of hot water. Stir until dissolved.
(If you have 3 cups of water you will add 9 tbsp of borax)
Use wire or string to attach your rainbow to the stick. Put the rainbow into the solution making sure rainbow does not touch the bottom or sides.
Now It’s Time to Watch And Wait
The hardest part of this project is waiting until your crystals form.
When I made this rainbow it took about 2 hours before I noticed crystals forming.
Its best not to move or touch the bowl or stick.
Crystals starting to form
2 Hours Later
Super Thinker
Questions to Consider
- What shape are your borax crystals?
- What color are your borax crystals?
- Are your crystals shiny or dull?
- Are your crystals smooth or rough?
- What happens if you put your crystals in hot water?
20-24 Hours Later
Take the crystal rainbow out of the solution and set on a paper towel.
If you made the crystal clouds, carefully attach them to the rainbow using wire.
or
Glue cotton balls to the ends.

Teaching Kids the Colors of the Rainbow
This would be a fun project to do in class or at home when teaching children the different colors in a rainbow, or around Saint Patricks Day. Maybe make some crystal shamrocks to go along with your rainbow.

Why Do Crystals Form?
Simply Put:
Hot water holds more borax than cold water. When you add borax to hot water it dissolves. When the borax will no longer dissolve you have a saturated solution. Hot water molecules can hold more than cool. As the water cools down the water molecules will start releasing the borax, and the crystals will begin to form.
Where Does Borax Come From?
Borax occurs naturally in evaporate deposits produced by the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes.
For more borax info visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax
This is a fun project and the crystals are beautiful. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Getting Closer to an Animated Video
Hi there,
We wanted to give you an update on what’s going on with Billy Gorlly.
John and I have been working on putting together all the illustrated pieces of Billy Gorilly and his pals.
What does that mean?
Well, artist “Joshua Perry” sends the images to us as separate teeny tiny little pieces. The eyes, eyelashes, hands, fingers, hair, arms, feet, shadows, etc. are sent to us as separate pieces so they can be switched and moved around. Reminds me of digital color forms. The reason he does this is so they can be animated.
The construction of the images with their many layers and files take a bit of time to put together. Especially when you are fairly new to doing it.
We finally completed all the characters and we wanted to give you a sneak peek of what they look like. Soon we will be creating animated videos to go along with Billy Gorilly’s music. Yay!
When I was scrolling back and forth through all the images John secretly recorded my beeps and bops (sneaky he was) and decided to use it for the sneak preview video.
