{"id":1227,"date":"2012-05-09T11:21:15","date_gmt":"2012-05-09T18:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/billygorilly.com\/blog\/?p=1227"},"modified":"2012-05-09T11:21:15","modified_gmt":"2012-05-09T18:21:15","slug":"billy-gorilly-co-creator-named-lime-squeeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/billygorilly.com\/blog\/2012\/billy-gorilly-co-creator-named-lime-squeeze\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy Gorilly Co-creator Named May \u201cLime Squeeze\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">View original article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livinlime.com\/blog\/22\/Lime-Squeeze\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MAKING SWEET MUSIC TO\u00a0CHILDREN&#8217;S EARS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by\u00a0 Jeanne Barrett (May 2012)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1228\" title=\"Tamara Maellaro - Livin' Limes May &quot;LIme Squeeze&quot;\" src=\"http:\/\/billygorilly.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/342CE03B1A3BBB5BFC336D6B6D8A9400_953x889-e1336583963666.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to our May Lime Squeeze, Tamara Maellaro!\u00a0 Tamara is inspiring children with a singing gorilla named Billy Gorilly\u2026one story and one song at a time!<br \/>\nAs Tamara looks back on her life, there are many things that led her to where she is today.\u00a0 She has always loved children, teaching, and music \u2013 though she didn\u2019t realize back then that those would combine for creating a successful children\u2019s website today.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Southern California, Tamara was very involved in sports and was a competitive runner.\u00a0 Music was also always a big part of her family life.\u00a0 \u201cMy father had a drum set, my brother played drums too, and I played flute and piccolo,\u201d shares Tamara.\u00a0 \u201cIn junior high, I quit running and started to focus on music.\u00a0 In high school, I was part of a concert band that toured Europe and we even made an album at a large music studio in Sweden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After high school, Tamara pursued nursing and ended up working in a neo-natal\/pediatrics unit.\u00a0 \u201cI took care of children who came out of intensive care.\u00a0 I used music with my patients.\u00a0 I noticed that music calmed them down.\u201d\u00a0 Even though Tamara wasn\u2019t touring anymore or actively pursing a music career, she was using her musical talents with her patients and noticing a difference with their moods and healing.<\/p>\n<p>At 28 years old, Tamara met her husband, John Maellaro, a music teacher and composer.\u00a0 \u201cMy husband has a wide variety of students.\u00a0 He teaches private music lessons for people ages 4 to 90,\u201d says Tamara.\u00a0 Together, they decided to come up with a website and create educational, positive songs and stories for children.\u00a0 \u201cWe have a love for music and it\u2019s something we can share with others.\u00a0 We wanted to accentuate the positive in life and use music to teach children.\u00a0 We like learning, too!\u00a0 We designed the website, and I do the graphic arts, worksheets and blog posts. \u00a0John does the character\u2019s voices, and writes the songs with a colleague, Charles Hardman.\u00a0 My husband also does the voice for our main character, Billy Gorilly, in an upbeat, classic style.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Billy Gorilly website and songs are aimed for children ages 3-7.\u00a0 Billy Gorilly sings songs and tells stories to kids that encourage cooperation, honesty, responsibility, and tolerance.\u00a0 The website is a wonderful educational tool for children \u2013 with not only music and stories, but coloring pages, puzzles, recipes for kids, and even sheet music!\u00a0 They offer a family newsletter and the whole website encourages reading and learning through music.<\/p>\n<p>The amazing reach they\u2019ve had worldwide makes Tamara very grateful.\u00a0 \u201cWe have customers ordering the music from Mexico and Canada, and they are using the songs to learn the English language. That\u2019s the beauty of the Internet and social media.\u00a0 It\u2019s such a nice feeling to know that we can help people from other countries to learn English through our music and characters.\u00a0 We recently received a thank you note from a library in Australia thanking us for our songs.
